Privacy notice
This notice explains what personal data NGEN Markets UK collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have. NGEN Markets UK is fund research and portfolio analytics for UK financial advisers.
In short
- We collect only what we need to run your account and keep free trials fair: your name, work email address, UK mobile number, password and some technical details.
- If you subscribe, you pay on Stripe's secure page, and your card details go to Stripe, never to us. We keep your plan and its dates, and we keep payment and VAT records for 6 years, as UK law requires.
- We text your mobile only to check that it's yours.
- We don't use cookies, advertising or analytics trackers. Signing in stores a few details in your browser so that you stay signed in.
- We don't sell your personal data. Fund data on the platform comes from Morningstar, but we don't share your personal data with Morningstar.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data at any time.

We are the controller of your personal data, which means we decide how and why it is used. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, under registration number ZC278724.
If you have a question about this notice or about your data, email support@ngenmarkets.co.uk with "Privacy" in the subject line.
What we collect, and why
| What we collect | Why we use it | Our lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Free trial sign-up: your name, work email address, UK mobile number and the password you choose | To create and run your trial account, and to let you sign in | Contract: providing the trial you asked for |
| Mobile number check: your mobile number and the one-time code we text to it | To confirm that you're a real person with a UK mobile, and to allow one free trial per person | Legitimate interests: preventing fraud and misuse of free trials |
| Buying a subscription on our pricing page: your name, work email address, UK mobile number and the password you choose, or, if you already have an account, your email address and password | To create your account, or find your existing one, once your payment has gone through. If you don't complete the payment, we delete these details within 48 hours | Contract: setting up the subscription you asked for |
| Your account: your user ID, sign-in records (such as when you last signed in), when your trial or subscription ends, and what you save, such as portfolios and fund screens | To provide the service and keep your work available to you | Contract |
| Your subscription: your plan, whether it's active or cancelled, its renewal and end dates, the references Stripe gives your customer record and subscription, and a record of the payment events Stripe sends us. We never receive your card details | To give you the access you've paid for, and to handle renewals, plan changes and cancellations | Contract |
| Payment and VAT records: your invoices and receipts, with the name, email address, billing address and any VAT number they're made out to. Stripe holds these for us | To keep the accounting and VAT records the law requires | Legal obligation |
| Security details: your IP address, your browser details and the time of each sign-up attempt | To protect the service against automated sign-ups and other abuse | Legitimate interests: keeping the service secure |
| Messages: what you write to us, and the emails we send you about your account | To answer you and to run your account | Contract, or our legitimate interest in replying to you |
| Registered interest: if you registered your interest before we opened free trials, your email address, IP address and browser details | To tell you when access opens | Legitimate interests: telling you about the access you asked to hear about |
Automated checks
When you start a free trial, our systems check the request automatically: for signs that it was sent by an automated program, for too many attempts from the same network or mobile number, and for an email address or mobile number that has already had a trial. If a check stops your sign-up and you think it shouldn't have, email support@ngenmarkets.co.uk and a person will look at it.
When you buy a subscription on our pricing page, similar checks look for automated programs and for too many attempts. Stripe also checks each payment automatically for signs of fraud.
Information stored on your device
Our public pages don't store anything on your device. When you sign in, we store your sign-in token, user ID, name, email address, organisation ID and access end date in your browser's local storage. That keeps you signed in, including when you open a fund in a new tab. This storage is strictly necessary for the service you've asked for, and it is cleared when you log out. We don't use cookies, and we don't use advertising or analytics trackers.
When you pay, or manage your subscription, you're on Stripe's own pages, which use Stripe's cookies, for example to prevent fraud; Stripe's privacy policy explains them. Our own pages don't load anything from Stripe.
Who we share it with
We use these providers to run NGEN Markets UK. They handle personal data for us under contract, and only on our instructions, except where we say otherwise below:
- Microsoft hosts our website, our API and our database (Microsoft Azure), and provides our email (Microsoft 365).
- The SMS Works, a UK company, sends our verification texts and checks the codes. It receives your mobile number and the code.
- Stripe handles subscription payments. You pay on Stripe's secure page: Stripe receives your email address from us, and the card details, name and billing address you enter on its pages, with anything else you add there, such as a phone number, a VAT number or a reason for cancelling. Stripe sends your receipts and VAT invoices, and emails you about renewals and failed payments. It also uses some payment data for its own purposes, such as preventing fraud and meeting its legal obligations, as its privacy policy explains.
- Google serves the fonts on our pages and, inside the platform, a common software library. Your browser connects to Google's servers to fetch them, so Google receives your IP address and browser details.
We may also share personal data when the law requires it, or with professional advisers such as lawyers and accountants where that's needed. We don't sell your personal data.
Fund data on NGEN Markets UK is provided by Morningstar. We don't share your personal data with Morningstar.
Where your data is stored
Our database is in Microsoft's UK South (London) region. Our website and API run in Microsoft's West Europe region, in the Netherlands; the UK recognises countries in the European Economic Area as giving personal data adequate protection. The SMS Works keeps your data in the UK, on servers spread across several UK data centres.
Some of our providers belong to groups based outside the UK, mainly in the United States, and data may be accessed from there, for example for technical support. Stripe also processes payment data in the United States. Microsoft, Google and Stripe are certified under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which UK law recognises as giving personal data adequate protection when it reaches them in the United States.
Some of our team work from outside the UK, including in India. They can access personal data only as our staff, when that's needed to run and support the service, and your data stays where this section says.
How long we keep it
- Your account, including your subscription details: while it is open, and for 12 months after your trial or subscription ends, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
- Payment and VAT records (invoices, receipts and our records of the payments behind them): 6 years, as UK tax law requires.
- Details entered on our pricing page for a purchase that isn't completed: 48 hours.
- A record that an email address or mobile number has had a free trial: 24 months from sign-up, so that trials stay one per person.
- Security records (the IP address and browser details recorded when you sign up): 90 days. Our limits on repeated sign-up, purchase and failed log-in attempts are held in memory and clear within 24 hours.
- Records of the texts we send: The SMS Works keeps them for 90 days, then archives them for up to 7 years. The codes themselves stop working after 10 minutes.
- Registered interest: until we've told you that access has opened, and no later than 31 December 2026.
How we protect it
Every connection to NGEN Markets UK is encrypted (HTTPS), and we limit access to personal data to the people and systems that need it to run the service. We never see or store your card details: Stripe handles them.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of your personal data;
- ask us to correct data that's wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your data;
- ask us to restrict how we use your data;
- object to our use of your data where we rely on legitimate interests;
- ask for the data you gave us in a format you can take to another service;
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
To use any of these rights, email support@ngenmarkets.co.uk. We'll reply within one month, and there's normally no charge.
We may need to keep some records even if you ask us to delete your data, such as the payment and VAT records the law requires us to keep.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to put things right first, so please contact us.
Children
NGEN Markets UK is a professional service for financial advisers. It isn't meant for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect children's data.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use personal data, we'll update this notice and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll also tell account holders by email.
